One of the hardest parts of making projections in June and July is the lack of information available, especially in 2026, when coaches like to keep everything close to the chest. Do we assume a player is the top guy at their position, which could drastically improve their ranking? Do we dock %s from the typical role to account for risk and the lack of surefire knowledge about the player in that role? It’s a fickle game we play, but we try our best to stand on our background and knowledge of the CFB landscape as much as we can.
Other times, though, we have to play it a little more conservatively. Let’s take a look at four players who would see big jumps in the rankings if they were to receive the full workload. We can’t quite confirm yet…
Mason McKenzie, QB, Boston College
Current Ranking: QB50
“If” Ranking: QB26
McKenzie is a DII transfer currently competing for the quarterback job with the Eagles. He’s a dual-threat who should win the job, but we don’t have enough to give him the job firmly. Give him the role, and we see his QB ranking shoot up 24 spots to just outside the top 25.
