Former starting QB Jake Retzlaff left BYU late this summer, creating an expected QB battle this fall. Utah State transfer McCae Hillstead and Treyson Bourguet were presumed to be the lead candidates. However, Jay Drew of Desert News reports that 3-star true freshman QB, Bear Bachmeier, is “right in the mix”, and even received the most first-team reps in the open portion of practice. Bachmeier’s youth and athleticism make him a name to watch should he win this battle.
