The GJ Kinne System Evolution
I’m still not sure if GJ Kinne is a great coach or a terrible one. Sometimes I think he is both in the same game. But in 2026, he’s shown he can adapt to his circumstances and personnel. Texas State’s hand this year includes a plethora of injuries at WR. Despite all the talk this offseason about no real viable RB options, Kinne has shifted the offense into a run-heavy spread system that is currently producing two fantasy options: Torrance Burgess Jr. and Davian Jackson.
Kinne is really leaning on his OL, which averages 6’6″, 330 lbs, to create space. Burgess is averaging close to 15 PPG, and Jackson, who has WR eligibility from his time at Miss State, is averaging over 20 PPG. If either were to separate, I’d lean strongly toward Burgess. He’s been amazing in the advanced analytics: 4.52 YPC after contact, 22 missed tackles forced on 54 attempts, and a 42% breakaway rate. Jackson has been a TD monster, but watching the flow of the games, I think that is mostly happenstance. It wouldn’t shock me if Burgess is a top-10 RB the rest of the way.
Vulturepack
This weekend marks one year since an NC State running back has scored a touchdown inside the 5-yard line. That’s right. A Power 4 program that prides itself on running the ball has gone an entire year without a single RB scoring a single TD from five yards or less. Over that same stretch, the QB room has scored 15 TDs inside the 5-yard line. In fact, Bailey and Wilson had five of these TDs this year in the first two games alone. Food for thought if you’re considering starting Duke Scott in your leagues or in DFS. (Now watch Scott get three goal-line TDs this week)
An FCS QB to Keep An Eye On
South Dakota’s Austyn Modrzewski is a quarterback to watch come portal season this January. I’d be lying if I told you I sat down to watch all the Coyotes football games, but the highlights I’ve seen are pretty enticing. Modrzewski is a redshirt freshman who has thrown for 970 yards and 14 TDs in his first three games. He also doesn’t look like a total zero in the run game, with 60 yards and a TD so far.

Camden Coleman over JC Evans– This was a tight competition in fall camp, and Evans, who looked solid in Week 1 against Liberty, has been out with a wrist injury to his non-throwing arm. Coleman has been really good since taking over and doesn’t look like he will be giving up the gig.
Damon Ferguson over Ja’Kyrian Turner – This one isn’t likely to be a true corporate takeover, but rather a corporate dismantling. Both Ferguson and La’Vell Wright have looked great since Turner has been out. If Ferguson and/or Wright go off against Bucknell with Turner likely sitting again, this could become a full-on RBBC.
Javion Kinnard over Lucky Sutton – Kinnard is a real long shot to fully take over Sutton as the Sean Lewis volume pig (trademarked), but it shouldn’t shock anyone if this is now a two-headed monster when Sutton returns to full health.
Lordy, Lordy… More Hoosier Talk?
If you have followed me for a while, then you know I am a fan of second-year receiver Davion Chandler. It came as no surprise that Tyler Morris, a veteran who missed 2025 with injury, was penciled into the starting slot role for the Hoosiers to open the season. On the surface, Morris has played 79 snaps to Chandler’s 59. But a deeper look shows that Morris outpaced Chandler 33 snaps to 2 snaps in Week 1.
Not only has Chandler seen the field significantly more over the last couple of weeks, but he has also been more explosive than Morris, having reached the end zone on three of his four catches (Morris stat line is 4-59-0). We are still a long way from a third Hoosier WR being roster-worthy, let alone startable. However, Chandler, who runs a 4.4 with a 40-inch vert, is someone to keep on your radar.
