The 2025 NFL Season is here, and with it comes some lineup questions. Which moves should you make to maximize your points? Let this weekly post be your guide as I offer one start and one sit suggestion at QB, RB, WR, and TE. These suggestions are based on my rankings compared to the consensus each week. And because we want to measure our success, check back each week for a recap on how I did.

For this project, a start is a player I think will finish in the Top 12 at QB or TE and in the Top 24 at RB or WR. A sit is a player I think will finish outside those metrics. Before we dive into this week’s suggestions, let’s review how we did last week. All scoring is courtesy of Fantasy Pros.

Before we look forward, it’s time to look back at Week 1. It wasn’t my best week.

Week 1 Starts

QB: Drake Maye, QB18 Miss. Maye was fine, but not good enough.
RB: Josh Jacobs, RB18 Hit. Jacobs was solid and got volume in Week 1. I thought he’d have more yards, but he was still a Top 24 guy.
WR: Courtland Sutton, WR12 Hit. Sutton stays hot with Nix!
TE: George Kittle, TE10 Hit. Despite going out with an injury, Kittle was a good start.
Start Record: 3-1

Week 1 Sits

QB: Jordan Love, QB17 Hit. Love was good, but more on that QB2 pace like in 2024.
RB: Jaylen Warren, RB19 Miss. Warren got receiving volume and a touchdown, outpacing my expectations.
WR: Calvin Ridley, WR56 Hit. Ridley wasn’t a great bet in Denver.
TE: Dalton Kincaid, TE4 Miss. Kincaid got volume and produced. As someone who rosters him, I’m not mad at this miss.
Sit Record: 2-2

Now, on to the Week 2 Picks!

Quarterbacks

Start: Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers

About: Herbert got off to a fiery start in Brazil in Week 1. He threw for three touchdowns and 318 yards against the Chiefs. He gets another divisional game in Week 2, heading to Las Vegas to face the Raiders. The Raiders held Drake Maye to QB2 numbers in Week 1, but I like Herbert to keep slinging it and start 2-0.

Sit: Daniel Jones, Indianapolis Colts

About: I get it, Jones finished as QB3 in Week 1 and put up three touchdowns. It was surprising, and he should undoubtedly be rostered. He might have some upside this season. But in Week 2, though at home, Jones is facing a smothering Denver Broncos’ defense. I don’t know that he’ll look like he did in 2024 again, but I don’t see him posting another Top 12 finish in Week 2.

Running Backs

Start: Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers

About: McCaffrey finished as RB3 in Week 1. He had 22 carries and caught nine passes on 10 targets. It was a remarkable workload for a player returning from a lost season in 2024, and concerns persisted that he still wasn’t fully healthy. Now, heading into Week 2, he might be the healthiest 49er on offense. It should be wheels up again in Week 2. He’s a start.

Sit: Jerome Ford, Cleveland Browns

About: Ford has been a solid option in the Browns’ backfield the past two seasons. We thought that would continue in 2025, but he had just eight yards on six carries in Week 1, catching one pass for negative three yards. This week, the Browns face the Ravens, and the team may be welcoming Quinshon Judkins. Even without Judkins, rookies Dylan Sampson and Raheim Sanders contributed in Week 1. Ford is out of my lineups.

Wide Receivers

Start: CeeDee Lamb, Dallas Cowboys

About: When is a game where you catch seven passes for 110 yards a disappointment? When you’re Lamb and you have a couple of big drops. Word came out that he was working on the Jugs gun by Friday morning. This week, he’s at home against a woeful Giants’ secondary. I expect Lamb to make a statement, and I want him in my lineup when that happens.

Sit: Nico Collins, Houston Texans

About: Collins saw five targets in Week 1, catching three for just 25 yards. The Texans’ offense struggled mightily on Sunday, posting just nine points against the Buccaneers. The team’s offense has been in a funk for a while now. A Monday night battle with the Buccaneers won’t make it any easier. I’m weary of the Texans’ offense at the moment, and I think the team will have another rough outing in Week 2. I’m staying away.

Tight Ends

Start: Jonnu Smith, Pittsburgh Steelers

About: Smith saw six targets in Week 1, catching five passes and a touchdown in the Steelers’ win against the Jets. The Steelers traded for Smith, as he is familiar with Arthur Smith’s offense, and he appears to have a solid role. He’s now playing a Seahawks team that only gave up 17 points in Week 1, but still managed to give up two touchdowns to tight ends. I like Smith this week.

Sit: Darren Waller, Miami Dolphins

About: Waller retired before the 2024 season. He came out of retirement this year to play for the Dolphins, but he’s already battling hip issues. He missed Week 1 and might miss Week 2. Even if he plays, I don’t see him being a factor for a Dolphins’ team that is something of a train wreck at present. He’s out of my lineup.
