The 2024 NFL Season is here, and with it comes some lineup questions. Which moves should you make to maximize your points? Let this weekly post be your guide as I offer one start and one sit suggestion at QB, RB, WR, and TE. These suggestions are based on my rankings against consensus each week. Because we want to measure our success, we check back each week for a recap of how we did.

For this project, a start is a player I think will finish Top 12 at QB or TE and Top 24 at RB or WR. A sit is a player I think will finish outside those metrics. Before we dive into this week’s suggestions, let’s review how we did last week. All scoring is courtesy of Fantasy Pros.

Week 3 Starts

QB: Baker Mayfield, QB27 Miss. Mayfield had a rough day in a surprising rout at the hands of the Broncos.
RB: Jordan Mason, RB24 Hit. Just barely, but I got it.
WR: Rashee Rice, WR3 Hit. Rice continues to impress.
TE: Brock Bowers, TE17 Miss. Bowers didn’t get the volume in an ugly game for the Raiders.
Start Record: 2-2

Week 3 Sits

QB: Justin Herbert, QB28 Hit. Herbert isn’t getting the volume.
RB: Austin Ekeler, RB16 Miss. As I mentioned, he got the random TD to make his day.
WR: Quentin Johnston, WR38 Hit. He got a TD pass, but still not enough volume.
TE: Dalton Schultz, TE26 Hit. There are too many mouths to feed for the Texans.
Sit Record: 3-1

On to the Week 4 selections!

Quarterbacks

Start: Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders

Courtesy of Sports Illustrated

About: Daniels has started hot, going without a turnover in three starts. He’s done it on the ground, but he’s also done it through the air. In fact, it was his passing that really stood out on Monday night in Cincinnati. Daniels is QB2 on the season and gets a fantasy-friendly matchup with the Cardinals in Week 4. He’s a no-brainer start.

Sit: Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars

About: Lawrence got paid this off-season. He has a contract worth $55 million a year. But that didn’t keep Doug Pederson from suggesting Lawrence is on the hot seat as the team’s starter after an 0-3 start. Lawrence is just QB28 on the season and he has a Week 4 game in Houston against an angry Texans team. I’m not optimistic.

Running Backs

Start: Aaron Jones, Minnesota Vikings

About: This is a bit of a gamble. Jones isΒ RB13Β on the season, with a great game in Week 1 and a great game in Week 3 sandwiched around a rough outing in Week 2. But with Sam Darnold a little banged up, some of the passing game weapons ailing, and a matchup against his old team, I think Jones will soar in this one. He’s a Top 24 play for me.

Sit: D’Andre Swift, Chicago Bears

About: Swift managed just 20 yards on 13 carries in Week 3 against the Colts. That’s not good. He got out-rushed by Roschon Johnson on fewer carries. He’s RB45 on the season, averaging less than five points per game. I suspect he starts ceding more carries to Johnson, too. Swift is a stay-away.

Wide Receivers

Start: Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

About: Godwin is back, and he’s having himself a season. He’s had 17 or more points in each game this season, sitting as WR3 on the season. This week, the Buccaneers have a big home matchup with the Eagles. While the Eagles were in a more conservative game last week, I suspect more scoring in this Week 4 matchup, and I like Godwin to be a big part of that.

Sit: Michael Pittman, Jr., Indianapolis Colts

About: I still believe in Pittman’s talent, but it’s been a lot of growing pains in the Colts’ pass offense. Anthony Richardson, who only made a handful of starts as a rookie, is going through some growing pains. That has meant he’s not on the same page with Pittman, who is just WR70 on the season, averaging less than seven points per game. For now, he’s a sit.

Tight Ends

Start: Dallas Goedert, Philadelphia Eagles

Courtesy of New York Times

About: Tight End has been a tough position in 2024, but Goedert has been remarkably consistent. He was Top 12 after two weeks even though the Eagles have other weapons. But with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith ailing in Week 3, he took over. He had 27 PPR points and sits as TE1 through three weeks. The receivers are still ailing in Week 4, so I expect a heavy dose of Goedert in Tampa Bay.

Sit: Mark Andrews, Baltimore Ravens

About: That sound you heard was fantasy players weeping after seeing Andrews put up a zero in Week 3. He’s splitting time with Isaiah Likely at tight end in a run-first, run-heavy offense. With Head Coach John Harbaugh suggesting Andrews is part of a rotation at the position, that doesn’t bode well. He’s TE29 with just 12.5 PPR points total this season. He’s not a reliable start at this point.
