The 2024 NFL Season is here, and with it comes some lineup questions. Which moves should you make to maximize your points? Let this weekly post be your guide as I offer one start and one sit suggestion at QB, RB, WR, and TE. These suggestions are based on my rankings against consensus each week. Because we want to measure our success, we check back each week for a recap of how we did.
For this project, a start is a player I think will finish Top 12 at QB or TE and Top 24 at RB or WR. A sit is a player I think will finish outside those metrics. Before we dive into this week’s suggestions, let’s review how we did last week. All scoring is courtesy of Fantasy Pros.
Week 7 Starts
QB: Lamar Jackson, QB1 Hit. Jackson remains red-hot.
RB: Joe Mixon, RB4 Hit. Mixon is having a great year with Houston.
WR: Garrett Wilson, WR20 Hit. Wilson remains a target hog in New York.
TE: Evan Engram, TE19 Miss. Engram was involved, but not quite enough volume.
Start Record: 3-1
Week 7 Sits
QB: Russell Wilson, QB3 Miss. Wilson exploded after a slow start.
RB: Zack Moss, RB38 Hit. Moss isn’t getting enough volume to be in the Top 24.
WR: Khalil Shakir, WR 18 Miss. Shakir had a good day.
TE: Tyler Conklin, TE13 Hit. Despite a TD, Conklin wasn’t Top 12.
Sit Record: 2-2
Now, on to the Week 8 picks!
Quarterbacks
Start: Jared Goff, Detroit Lions

About: I picked Goff as my choice for NFL MVP pre-season. So far, that looks like a good pick. Goff is QB12 on a points-per-game basis and QB13 overall. He’s been hot on this recent win streak and is at home against a poor Titans team. He’s in for a big day.
Sit: Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis Colts
About: Richardson missed time, which didn’t help, but he only has one game with more than 15 points. Granted, that did come in Week 1 against the same Texans he’s facing this week, but the Texans have improved since then. They’re also at home. Richardson is struggling to grow as a passer and, absent hitting big plays, he’s not providing enough of a fantasy floor, averaging just 12 points per game. That has him below even Daniel Jones. Until we see a step forward, he’s not a QB1.
Running Backs
Start: Josh Jacobs, Green Bay Packers

About: Jacobs was a big signing for the Packers, and it’s been a good one. He’s currently RB15 on the season, averaging just over 13 points per game. He even had his first career receiving touchdown last week. Now, the Packers are facing a poor Jaguars team. I’m firing Jacobs up.
Sit: Rhamondre Stevenson, New England Patriots
About: The Patriots offense is, at best, a work-in-progress. While I like Stevenson and think he’s the Patriots best skill position player, it hasn’t been easy. He’s just RB31 on the season. He’s also been very up-and-down, with three games at 15 or more points and three games with less than nine points. He’s not a reliable start, especially in Week 8 against a hungry Jets team.
Wide Receivers
Start: Brian Thomas, Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars

About: The Jaguars host the Packers. They’ll likely need to throw. That’s good for those who roster the rookie Thomas, who has been the Jaguars’ best receiver so far this season. He’s WR8 on the season, averaging over 15 points per game. He’s been a great fit with Trevor Lawrence and should be a weekly start.
Sit: Diontae Johnson, Carolina Panthers
About: The Panthers are on the road against the Broncos this week. It is not a great matchup, but the Panthers’ offense has also been in a slump. That includes Johnson and quarterback Andy Dalton. Facing Patrick Surtain II won’t help matters. At best, Johnson is a risky flex option and certainly not Top 24 this week.
Tight Ends
Start: Brock Bowers, Las Vegas Raiders

About: The Raiders don’t have much going for them on offense, but the lone bright spot has been Bowers. He’s TE1 on the season, averaging more than 14 points per game. They’ll need offense when facing the Chiefs, and Bowers is the most likely option. He’s a weekly start.
Sit: Noah Fant, Seattle Seahawks
About: With D.K. Metcalf likely to miss, Fant could see an uptick in targets. That might have you thinking about putting him in a lineup. I get it. While Fant could surprise, I’m not counting on enough volume to make him a TE1. He’s TE17 on the season, averaging just 7.2 points per game. He also has four games with less than six points. He’s not a reliable TE1 start.
