The 2024 NFL Season is here, and with it comes some lineup questions. Which moves should you make to maximize your points? Let this weekly post be your guide as I offer one start and one sit suggestion at QB, RB, WR, and TE. These suggestions are based on my rankings against consensus each week. Because we want to measure our success, we check back each week for a recap of how I did.

For this project, a start is a player I think will finish Top 12 at QB or TE and Top 24 at RB or WR. A sit is a player I think will finish outside those metrics. Before we dive into this week’s suggestions, let’s review how we did last week. All scoring is courtesy of Fantasy Pros.

Starts Week 8

QB: Jared Goff, QB20 Miss. Goff threw three TDs but only 85 yards in a blowout.
RB: Josh Jacobs, RB3 Hit. Jacobs remains hot.
WR: Brian Thomas, Jr., WR27 Miss. Thomas didn’t get enough volume.
TE: Brock Bowers, TE18 Miss. Bowers had an off game in the loss.
Start Record: 1-3

Sits Week 8

QB: Anthony Richardson, QB25 Hit. Richardson has been bad, and is now benched.
RB: Rhamondre Stevenson, RB5 Miss. Stevenson had a great, two-touchdown day.
WR: Diontae Johnson, DNP Hit. Johnson did not suit up and has been traded.
TE: Noah Fant, TE35 Hit. Fant isn’t getting enough volume.
Sit Record: 3-1

No, on to the Week 9 picks.

Quarterbacks

Start: Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

About: The Bengals haven’t been great. The team is just 3-5 and is fading in the playoff race. But, for fantasy purposes, Burrow has been solid. He’s QB6 on the season, averaging just about 19 points per game. This week, he gets the Raiders. I’m firing up Burrow.

Sit: Bo Nix, Denver Broncos

About: I know Nix has been on a heater. He’s up to QB9 on the season with 11 touchdowns and just one interception in the past six games. But that was a softer part of the schedule. This week, he’s on the road against a hungry Ravens team. He might be OK for Superflex, but he’s not a Top 12 option.

Running Backs

Start: Kyren Williams, Los Angeles Rams

About: Despite all the injuries to the offensive line and receivers, Williams has been the rock for the Rams’ offense. He’s RB5 on the season, averaging nearly 20 points per game. That includes more than 22 points in Week 8 as Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp returned. Williams is a workhorse, and he’s worth a start.

Sit: Travis Etienne, Jacksonville Jaguars

About: Etienne has missed the past few games due to an injury. He’s tracking to return this week, but the Jaguars are on the road against the Eagles. It’s not a great matchup, and Etienne will be splitting backfield touches with Tank Bigsby, who has come on of late. In a middling Jaguars offense, he’s not due enough volume to be a good play.

Wide Receivers

Start: Puka Nacua, Los Angeles Rams

About: Nacua rolled off IR in Week 8 and put up 18 points, rolling to a 100-yard day receiving. He’s back to his 2023 form, and the Rams are facing the Seahawks in a crucial NFC West matchup this week. I like Nacua to take off again, rewarding fantasy players for their patience.

Sit: Keenan Allen, Chicago Bears

About: The Bears are an emerging team, and Caleb Williams continues to grow as a passer. But that hasn’t always meant great things for his receivers. Allen is just WR77 on the season. Yes, he has one 21-point game. He’s finished the rest of his games with less than seven points. He’s not getting enough volume to be a solid play.

Tight Ends

Start: Cade Otton, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

About: The player who benefitted the most from Tampa Bay’s receiver loss is Otton. The tight end has exploded for 17 receptions for 181 yards and two touchdowns in the past two games. The Buccaneers face a stout test against the undefeated Chiefs this Monday, and Otton will be needed to help the offense move forward. I’m firing him up.

Sit: Colby Parkinson, Los Angeles Rams

About: At times, Parkinson has gotten some good volume in the Rams’ passing game, especially as they were short-handed at receiver. But with Nacua and Kupp back in the lineup, that limits opportunities. Parkinson is merely a low-end TE2 option who lacks the kind of upside that makes him a good lineup option.
