Listed at 5’9″ and 195 lbs., Henderson has been recruited by some of the biggest names in college football. Kalen DeBoer and Alabama tried to land him. Mario Cristobal and Miami took their shot to land his signature. He ultimately committed to Penn State and James Franklin before flipping his commitment to Hugh Freeze and Auburn on June 21, 2024.Β

Player Profile

Henderson is a two-sport athlete who plays basketball and football. He has been extremely productive from the moment he stepped onto the field as a freshman at Elba High School.

Henderson’s best season so far came as a junior, where he finished as the Alabama Class 1A Back of the Year for the second-straight season. He set an AHSAA single-season record with 61 touchdowns and led the entire country with 68 total touchdowns, which tied for seventh most touchdowns all-time in a single high school football season, according to MaxPreps.Β

Henderson displays good burst and vision behind the line of scrimmage. He lines up all over the formation and often takes direct wildcat snaps. This isn’t surprising, as Henderson is quite often the best athlete on the field. His competition level, for the most part, is lacking. Elba High School’s strength of schedule is ranked 100th in the state of Alabama, and it has a -25.3 per MaxPreps. (You typically want at least a positive number. The best high school in the nation currently, Mater Dei, has an 89.4 SOS.)

Henderson plays physically for his size. He runs through arm tackles with relative ease and has an effective stiff arm. His burst stands out when he hits an open hole or the open field; he quickly accelerates and hits his top speed of 21.6 MPH, eliminating pursuit angles and breaking off big plays.

What’s more impressive is his patience. Henderson typically allows plays to develop and his blockers to clear lanes before taking off. Sometimes, you will see these bursty backs constantly running into the backs of their offensive lineman; Henderson does not.Β

Auburn

Auburn lacks that explosive option at running back heading into the 2025 season, which would be Henderson’s freshman season. While they could go into the portal and bring someone in, this room is primed for Henderson to step in and be the lead back for the Tigers. Jeremiah Cobb would likely split touches with him as Hugh Freeze, in his time at Ole Miss, did have a 60/40 split between his top two running backs. With his possible use in the receiving game, Henderson could be one of the 2025 running backs who could step into an immediate role with fantasy upside.Β
