Week 5 was everything we hoped it would be and then some. Bama/Georgia was lit, another Jeanty showcase, a controversial Hail Mary, and so much more. Let’s see what Week 6 has in store for us.
Dyno Sleeper SZN
This is the time of year when everyone is trying to uncover the deep sleeper options to carry over to next year. After 5+ weeks, the player pool is more picked over than the $5 DVD bin at Wal-Mart in 2005. But if you dig deep enough, you end up coming across some real gems like What Dreams May Come and The Lost Boys after ripping through three feet of crappy rom coms and Rob Schneider flicks. Here are a few deep options for you that are surely to be big ole nothing burgers.

Herschel Turner, RB – Utah State: The true FR is the clear RB2 behind Rahsul Faison. The coaches have raved about his explosiveness and started giving him more run. Questions surround the staff and Robert Briggs heading into 2025, but this run game has been surprisingly good and Faison departs.
Yamir Knight, WR – James Madison: The second-year WR has quietly been solid and is building a nice rapport with Alonza Barnett. Cameron Ross and Omarion Dollison move on after this season leaving Knight and true FR Dylan Williams as the potential top two options in this potent offense. I punched the wall when Volume Pigs snagged him cheaply in my 24-teamer. Not really. But maybe.
Bryson Donelson, RB – Fresno State: Similar to Turner, we don’t know exactly what the future holds for this Fresno staff. What we do know is that Donelson and his strong camp reports are already bearing fruit. Malik Sherrod is done after this season. Elijah Gilliam will have the COVID year left if he chooses, but Donelson is already pushing.
Do or Die Time for G5 Kyler

This is pretty much it for Jaylen Raynor. If there is truth in the whispers that he will remain the starter for Week 6, he must show out. Arky State is coming off a bye and SoAL is licking their wounds from an LSU pounding. A sub 54% completion rate and just 3 TDs to 5 INTs through four games just won’t cut it. I’m rooting for this kid to get right.
Something’s Gotta Give

TCU has been incredibly effective passing the ball. Obviously Jack Bech has been a revelation, but who is the WR2 between Savion Williams and Eric McAlister? Snap counts are usually a pretty good indicator of production volume, but things are interesting here. Over the last three games, Williams has played 158 total snaps (99 pass snaps) compared to McAlister’s 73 total snaps (54 pass snaps). But McAlister, with a 14-268-3 receiving line, has actually outproduced Williams 11-137-2 over that same stretch. And it has been even more lopsided over the last two weeks.
Something’s Gotta Give doesn’t just apply to one of those crappy rom-coms found in that Walmart DVD bargain bin. Either McAlister’s recent production is a mirage that will soon fade away, or the staff recognizes his efficiency, and he establishes himself as a real factor in this passing game with increased snaps.
Losing My Religion

As Michael Stipe sang – “That’s me in the corner. That’s me in the spotlight. Losing my religion”….and faith in these offensive coordinators that we, the CFF community, once coveted.
Robert Anae – NC State: It’s been an all-around disappointment for Anae with the Pack. They hit the portal hard and still look anemic on offense. Poor quarterback play and a lack of explosives have limited this system that was once thought of as a quarterback golden goose. Here’s hoping CJ Bailey can break out.
Phil Longo – Wisconsin: Similar to Graham Harrell, who’s already received the ax, the Longo system stalls out far too often when facing an even modestly talented defense. Again, poor QB play may cost him his job.
Jeff Grimes – Kansas : I’ve never been a fan of Grimes, but he has his stans. Sometimes it only takes half a season to realize you made a mistake and I think that has to be going through Lance Leipold’s mind right now. It wouldn’t shock me if they make the move for Nevada OC Matt Lubick, who was an analyst for two seasons under Leipold.
“That was just a dream. Try. Cry. Fly. Try. That was just a dream. Just a dream”
Okay. Fine. One More Dynasty Sleeper
Treyshun Hurry, WR – San Jose State : The sophomore is third among Spartan WRs in targets…yes…a very distant third. Nevertheless, Hurry, a transfer from Weber State, has been a starter since he arrived. He doesn’t play the coveted slot role in the Stutzmann “Spread-n-Shred”, but Lockhart is proving a boundary guy can also eat in this system. Worst case scenario is you got the most productive returning WR in a heavy pass attack with a returning QB. Best case scenario is the small chance SJSU just wants their top WR in the slot, moves Hurry inside, and you have a guy ready to go NUCLEAR in 2025.
Cheers to Week 6! Here is hoping all those bye weeks don’t cost you any wins.
