Week 1 is in the books. It was a good one, but Week 2 has a chance to be unhinged. Let’s look at what we learned and what to expect moving forward.
Is Micah Alejado actually any good, or do we just love the idea of Micah Alejado? 52% and 4.9 YPA. Has he gotten worse each year?
Lincoln Kienholz scored 35 fantasy points in his first start against potentially the most difficult defense on his schedule…all while somehow looking quite terrible at times. Is Jeff Brohm a QB guru again?
Cam Cook had a 72-yard run on his first carry. Should I be worried that he then carried the ball 29 times for just 70 yards without a single carry going for at least 10 yards against Coastal?
Is it crazy that I would rather own Ashton Hollins, Riley Neer, and an Iowa WR over Duce Robinson, who I had as a top 10 WR coming into the season? CFF is so weird.
Forget the cult jokes. Forget the “Jesus got me” jokes. It’s not even funny anymore. Clemson and Dabo’s rigid approach to this new era of CFB has just become sad. I don’t know if it is going to be Reynolds or Vizzina the rest of the way. It really doesn’t matter. Vizzina had a turnover-worthy throw on an amazing 17.6% of his passes. Reynolds wasn’t much better, averaging just 3.7 YPA. Dabo’s resistance to adding a QB or real OL competition from the portal has tanked the entire offense that actually has some really nice skill guys. Maybe the rest of the schedule (outside of Miami) allows for some flexibility, but even that is a stretch.
Key RB Injury Situations
Cal: Carter Vargas – His exit early in the second quarter led to 35 touches for Adam Mohammed.
Iowa: LJ Phillips – High ankle sprain means huge stock-up for Moulton, who put on a show against NIU.
Washington: This room is doomed. Reminds me of Minnesota RB room curse in odd years. I’m worried for Bonner, Cooley, or whoever is next up.
Texas: Derreck Cooper injury sounds significant, which means Smothers and Brown will carry an even heavier load. But most importantly, no Cooper to vulture around the goal line.
The Louisiana Lord of Darkness
Lane Kiffin already consistently produces some nice options for CFF, but there is a real chance Lane burns it all down, going scorched earth, given all the negativity towards his team. Let’s be real; his own conference is suing his team. He might embrace his inner Tim Curry or Alan Rickman (RIP to them both) and play the villain well. If you invested heavily in the LSU offense, I think it just might pay off in spades for you. They will try to hang half a hundy on everyone…and they just might succeed.
A Legend is Born
Speaking of Legend references (those of you in the 45+ age group will get it), I don’t say this lightly when I say I think we saw the next special freshman receiver in last week’s performance from Legend Glasker. Yes, I get that it was against Dixie State (you know who you are, Utah Tech), but add in the camp reports, the standing alone atop the depth chart, the Parker Kingston usage, and the explosive first outing…I’ve officially seen enough. He’s ready. And I’m ready to call Glasker a Legend.
